Sand Chronicles v.1-6

Title: Sand Chronicles v.1-6
Author: Hinako Ashihara
Rating: 3/5

Description: After her parents get divorced, Ann Uekusa and her mother move from Tokyo to rural Shimane. Accustomed to the anonymity of city living, Ann can't get used to the almost overbearing kindness of the people in her mother's hometown. But when personal tragedy strikes, Ann discovers how much she needs that kindness.

My Review: Ann is annoying thru the manga... I just want to finish this I got 4 volumes left and the library doesn't have it boo!

Kobato v.4-6 (completed)

Title: Kobato v.4-6
Author: Clamp
Rating: 4/5

Description: Hanato Kobato is on a mission: she has a wish she wants granted. To do this, she has to mend the wounded hearts of the people she meets on her journey and fill up a magical bottle with the suffering she has relieved. The only catch is, she can't fall in love with any of the people she helps. It seems like that's the least of her problems, though; Kobato has no clue how to mend hearts ...especially since each person's heart is different. So what's Kobato to do? Well, she has Ioryogi-san, a cute blue dog with a seriously bad attitude, to help (read: nag and critique) her ...Yikes! Looks like the road to getting her one wish is going to be a long and hard one. Will Kobato get her wish in the end? And just what is it that Kobato wants?

My Review: It pulled on my heart strings at the end, and such a beautiful story with characters you see thru all their series. Which I enjoy... its like a game. I love Clamp stories and this won't be the last of them.

(currently catching up the reviews on mangas I've read so I'll be rdy for 2016!)

Taken

Title: Taken
Author: Erin Bowman
Rating: 4/5

Description:
There are no men in Claysoot. There are boys—but every one of them vanishes at midnight on his eighteenth birthday. The ground shakes, the wind howls, a blinding light descends...and he’s gone.
They call it the Heist.
Gray Weathersby’s eighteenth birthday is mere months away, and he’s prepared to meet his fate–until he finds a strange note from his mother and starts to question everything he’s been raised to accept: the Council leaders and their obvious secrets. The Heist itself. And what lies beyond the Wall that surrounds Claysoot–a structure that no one can cross and survive.
Climbing the Wall is suicide, but what comes after the Heist could be worse. Should he sit back and wait to be taken–or risk everything on the hope of the other side?

My Review: This reminded me of Maze Runner... but reverse. The story is good and not a dull moment. And the characters interesting.

Title: Dark Heart of Magic

Rating:  5/5
Netgalley Arc

Description: Something Wicked This Way Comes...

As a thief, I stick to the shadows as much as possible. But when the head of the Sinclair Family picks me to compete in the Tournament of Blades, there's no escaping the spotlight—or the danger.

Even though he's my competition, Devon Sinclair thinks I have the best shot at winning what's supposed to be a friendly contest. But when the competitors start having mysterious "accidents," it looks like someone will do anything to win—no matter who they hurt.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about, mobster Victor Draconi is plotting against Devon and the rest of my friends, and someone's going around Cloudburst Falls murdering monsters. One thing's for sure. Sometimes, humans can be more monstrous than anything else...

My Review: Alright this series kicks butt, still Mythos is better but this one is so good. Characters are so good and story is too. This one was filled with twists I didn't even see:) I will be reading the next one that is for sure and the assassin series too and the superhero one also... totally a Jennifer Estep fan!

Title: Smile
Author: Raina Telgemeier

What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly.

Dark Swan comic v.1-4

Rating: 4/5

Description:Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this. Until now, she's been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banishing Otherworldly creatures. My Review: It's alright I guess!

Orphans (minus Raven - not finish yet)

Titles: Butterfly, Crystal, and Brooke
Author: V.C. Andrews
Rating: 4/5

Butterfly #1
Description: All she wanted was to be someone's little girl... Fate made her a lonely orphan, yearning for the embrace of a real family and a loving home. But a golden chance at a new life may not be enough to escape the dark secrets of her past...

My Review: A couple getting a girl to follow the mom's footsteps in Ballet because the mom now crippled. Butterfly and Brooke stories are very similar... Butterfly is graceful as she walks and wants to show her new mom the very best that she can do but things so sour and her adoptive mother goes nuts.

Crystal #2
Description: ALL SHE WANTED WAS A FAMILY SHE COULD CALL HER OWN...As an orphan girl, Crystal was one of many -- and utterly alone. But she still dreamed of a shining life of love and happiness, and freedom from the dark legacy of her past...

My Review: Crystal is truly a smart girl and sees everything til the very end- but even if she is smart nothing can brace her for the melt down of her adoptive mother that finally ends in death for both her parents and grandmother. Her Adoptive mother is into soap operas, her father into saving all the money and getting the best deals. But alas stuff happens and her becomes an orphan once again...

Brooke #3
Description: All she wanted was a mother's warm embrace.... Brooke was an orphan, abandoned long ago by a mother she barely knew. And though her new family seemed to offer the promise of a new beginning, a dark voice in her heart told her that she was now more alone than ever...

My Review: Brooke love sports, her new mother loves fashion, and beauty... not a great mix when Brooke gets adopted and her new mother forces beauty pagent stuff and piano lessons down her throat and gets really mean about it when Brooke decides she doesn't want to do what her mom wants which ends up her adopted parents returning her to the system and to the arms of the people focused on the 5th book once I get there :)

D.Gray-man v1-3

Title: D.Gray-man v1-3
Author: Hoshino, Katsura

Description: Set in a fictional end of the 19th century England, the story revolves around a teenage boy named Allen Walker who is cursed with a cross mark on his hand that turns his arm into an enormous weapon, which he uses to hunt down and kill akumas. An akuma, generated by a 1,000-year-old phantom, is implanted into a human's soul during a moment of devastation and despair. The phantom uses the demons to then carry out his goal: destroy all humankind.

My Review: I'm rereading this manga series because I never finished it plus its really good. Sad that they never finished the anime also. But alas the story is my cup of tea. If you like groups of people with weapons fighting against evil to save the world then this is yours too! :)

Title: Nimona

The Color of Fear

Title: Once Upon a Zombie, Book One
Author: by Billy Phillips and Jenny Nissenson
Rating:
Netgalley Review
archive: oct 9, 2015

Description:
When Caitlin Fletcher’s mom disappeared (or left?) four years ago, Caitlin began suffering from breathless bouts of anxiety. Her new move to London, with her Dad and her brainiac sister, threatens to lead to more situations that will trigger panic. Now, she’s having anxiety over the possibility of having anxiety!
Caitlin’s life takes a turn for the bizarre when she’s tricked into climbing down a “rabbit hole” landing in a wondrous fairy tale universe —except it’s crawling with savage starving blood-eyed zombies. All the timeless fairy tale characters who once lived forever are now the living dead— think Snow White, Cinderella,
Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty. Even worse they’re famished. Definitely not the ideal situation for a vulnerable young girl prone to panic attacks.

My Review: Wow, I loved it. The idea was brilliant and even though I pretty much knew the end idea of it I just kept reading it. I couldn't put this novel down. Natalie was my favorite character this quirky and smart-ass younger sister was interesting. The Zombies were cool. Caitlin was so real, like who doesn't have at least one of her fears. The only thing that got me is that I'm a huge Alice fan and I expected her in more then just the end- since she is on this cover. But hey I bet she will be in book 2 now... LUVED it!

Diamond City Magic #1

Title: Trace of Magic
Author: Diana Pharaoh Francis
Rating: 5/5
Reviewed thru Netgalley for Publisher!

Thankz for much to Niki Flowers from Dell Bridge Books for sending me a free copy of this book so I can review both book #1 and 2!

Description: Even the most powerful tracers can't track you if the magical trace you leave behind is too old. But I can track almost anything, even dead trace. That makes me a unicorn, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Lock Ness Monster all rolled into one. In a word, I am unique. A very special snowflake. And if anyone ever finds out, I'll be dead or a slave to one of the Tyet criminal factions. Riley Hollis has quietly traced kidnapped children and quietly tipped the cops to their whereabouts one too many times. Now she's on the radar of Detective Clay Price, a cop in the pocket of a powerful magic Tyet faction. When he blackmails her into doing a dangerous trace for him, Riley will have to break every rule that keeps her safe. Or become a Tyet pawn in a deadly, magical war.

My Review: Just finished this wonderful book. With a perfect mix of adventure, action, romance, and magic. Which kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is beautifully written and the characters are real-like. Stubborn and like-able. I love the tension and uncertain love between Riley and Price. The constant need to protect each other was cute. Now we just need some questions answered that were left alone for us. But soon enough I'll be reading book 2 so that's all good! I enjoyed this book way too much and I give it a 5/5 stars!

My Review: Alright so this was picked for me and I totally fell head over heels for Tor and Tina's relationship. It might have had rocky areas but they were so cute in pairs and HOT. I had a bit of a problem at the beginning because its been awhile for me to read historical romance but I stuck it out... I love Monica McCarty's writing style, the story, the colorful characters... oh man the hunks! Highlanders... lovely! I will read the rest of this series one day!

OMG to this series, the story started in a light jog which took place right after the first book. And it took a quick pace that left me breathless by the end. I love the story so far and the characters are so likeable. This series is making me a Hocking fan. I will read her other books! YAY!

Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son.   The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she's playing to win.

My Review: Finished at 5:19am I just wanted it done. The writing and characters were ok but the story wasn't for me at all. Not saying the book is bad but I just didn't enjoy it. Sorry! I guess I enjoyed the sample of the book and thought I would like the full story more.

Cold Burn of Magic

Title: Cold Burn of Magic
Author: Jennifer Estep
Rating:  5/5 Loved it!

Description:
There Be Monsters Here. . . It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick. But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . . (found on Shelfari)

My Review: This book rates as high as the frost series in my opinion. I love Jennifer's writing style and the way she makes kickass girls! And now I have something to look forward to in Nov. Book 2, Dark Heart of Magic will be out! So this story is about an orphan with secrets of her own as she takes care of herself but then gets caught in something that changes her life forever. The twist in this story had me gasping for air at the end and I couldn't read this book any faster than I did. And lets just say what another colorful world she painted for us again. Thanks again for writing these stories for us!
Then I headed over to amazon and it said oct.27 YAY!

Title: Invaded [Alienated #2]
Author: Melissa Landers
Rating:  5/5 I LOVED IT!

Description:

Even the weird dorm pet hates her. Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L'eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L'eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side. Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L'eihr relations. Humans don't know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx's people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists' multiple attempts on Aelyx's life. The Way clearly needs humans' help but with what? And what will they ask for in return? (found on Shelfari]

My Review: I think everyone should read this book its brilliant and totally different then most books. I love the characters and how the author describes everything. The hate/love relationship that the humans and L'eihrs have and also she answered most questions. Though I wish there was more- but who knows :) I know this is a short review... I'm pretty bad at them but what the heck I just wanted to say I love this series!

Gilded Ashes

Title: Gilded Ashes
Author: Rosamund Hodge
Rating:  5/5

Description:
A romantic and fantastical reimagining of the classic Cinderella tale, Gilded Ashes is a novella by Rosamund Hodge set in the same world as the author's debut novel, Sundered.
Orphan Maia doesn't see the point of love when it only brings pain: Her dying mother made a bargain with the evil, all-powerful ruler of their world that anyone who hurt her beloved daughter would be punished; her new stepmother went mad with grief when Maia's father died; and her stepsisters are desperate for their mother's approval, yet she always spurns them. And though her family has turned her into a despised servant, Maia must always pretend to be happy, or else they'll all be struck dead by the curse.

Anax, heir to the Duke of Sardis, doesn't believe in love either—not since he discovered that his childhood sweetheart was only using him for his noble title. What's the point of pretending to fall in love with a girl just so she'll pretend to fall in love with him back? But when his father invites all the suitable girls in the kingdom to a masked ball, Anax must finally give in and select a wife.
As fate would have it, the preparations for the masquerade bring him Maia, who was asked by her eldest stepsister to deliver letters to Anax. Despite a prickly first encounter, he is charmed and intrigued by this mysterious girl who doesn't believe in love. Anax can't help wishing to see her again—and when he does, he can't help falling in love with her. Against her will, Maia starts to fall in love with him too. But how can she be with him when every moment his life is in danger from her mother's deadly bargain?

My Review:
Just like the first book of the Cruel Beauty Series, titled the same. I loved this story, the characters and story is just beautiful and hooks you into it. This one is a retelling of Cinderella. It had me hooked in the first chapter- feeling bad for Maia and her step-sisters. And of course the Lord that's in the first book appears here too- I guess this is a prequel then :) Well I'll be reading the next book soon!

Cruel Beauty

Title: Cruel Beauty
By: Rosamund Hodge
Rating: 5/5

Description: Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love

My review: I loved this retelling of beauty and the beast. Nyx is a spitfire of a character who has so many faults that she could be a real person in our world. I love that, and the story is mixed with myths... so much love for this book that I'll be reading the novella next and then book 2 :)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author:  Laini Taylor
Rating: 2/5

Description:
Once upon a time, an angel and devil fell in love. It did not end well.
Around the world black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbook with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on "errands;" she speaks many languages, not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That's one question that haunts her that she is about to find out.
When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review:
First I thought she was his daughter and then bam she wasn't... I don't know what to think about this book. I read it for the book club but I don't think I liked it... well the end I didn't like!

Memory Zero

Title: Memory Zero
Author: Keri Arthur
Rating: 5/5 love
Netgalley Review

Description: For Sam Ryan, life began at the age of fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her past. For the ten years that Sam's been with the State Police, she's searched for clues to her identity. But it's as if all mention of her family has been deliberately wiped off the system. Everything changes the night she agrees to meet her missing partner, Jack, and barely survives his attempt to kill her. Charged with his murder, Sam finds herself accepting help from Gabriel Stern-a shapeshifter with secrets of his own. As Sam delves into her partner's death, it soon becomes clear that the key to surviving the present lies in unravelling the threads of her past-and discovering not just who she is, but what she is . . .

My Review: Sam thinks she is a normal girl but it is starting to not look like it now. Although the book doesn't get into why she is different really and I wouldn't tell you here anyways- at least there are another 2 books in this trilogy. I'll have to read these too! How fun. So far I love the story and the characters. even the world of spooks, there are vampires, changers, shapechangers, and a few other things that go bump in the night. Oh and plenty of action and I'm not talking action in the bedroom- violence!

Rating: 4/5

My Thoughts:
This story is full of laughs and tears, and really well written but left open. The anime didn't do the story any justice that's for sure. I liked it a lot... almost as much as Darker than Black which so far is my fav.

I Hate Myselfie

Title: I Hate Myselfie
Author: Shane Dawson
Rating:  5/5, LOVE IT
Reviewing for Netgalley (Archiving on March 30th)

Description: The book that more than 12 million YouTube subscribers have been waiting for! Shane Dawson’s memoir features twenty original essays—uncensored yet surprisingly sweet. Shane Dawson has always been an open book. From his first YouTube vlog back in 2008, to his feature film debut "Not Cool," to a cover story in Variety magazine, Shane has documented his life pre-tty thoroughly. We’ve seen awkward and adorable Q&As with his mom, weight loss center drama, love life details, and the all-important haircut reveal. We’ve seen his hilarious spoofs of Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, and Sarah Palin. His music videos are awesome. But in I Hate Myselfie!, fans will finally get a chance to see the real Shane through personal stories that are at once humorous and heartwarming, self-deprecating and totally inspiring. Highlighting key moments of his childhood and adolescence, through his phenomenal success on YouTube, and continuing on to his more recent experiences as an actor and director, Shane’s memoir will feature the silliness and satire his fans already enjoy, but it will be even more in depth, more real, and more portable (it’s a book). (from Shelfari)

My Review: Truly a rollercoaster, from laughing out loud to crying. I really enjoyed reading this book and his thoughts since I've been a fan of Shane Dawson since I stumbled onto his YouTube channel years ago. And reading this book I find his crude humor refreshing because he doesn't fear what people really think about him. Shane Dawson is Shane Dawson and he will be himself. And I totally love him for who he is! Keep up the good job and if you write more book I will read them... for sure!

The Look of Love

Title: The Look of Love
Author: Bella Andre
Rating: 4.5/5
Goodreads First Reads / MADIOS feb. 2015 BOTM

Description:
Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he? As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is—until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love—and protect—her, but will she let him? Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart.
From Shelfari :)

My Review:
The Look of Love is about a woman that has a past, she went thru a lot and doesn't trust a man even when he saves her on the side of the road. And that same man knew at the very start that she was the one he wanted to be with. Chloe and Chase are met to be and fate brought them both together. I truly love this book, the characters are completely loveable from side characters (the gay Jeremy who is crushing on Marcus to Marcus himself which is Chase's brother. He will be the star of the next book- which I WILL BE READING!) And the story was intense and wonderful as well. The only thing was that the beginning was a bit weird compared to the rest of the book but hell the rest of the book made up for that part totally. So I gave this read a 4.5, and as I said will be continuing this series as soon as the library sends me book 2!
