Viral Nation

Title: Viral Nation
Author: Shaunta Grimes
Rating: 5/5
NETGALLEY REVIEW

Description: After a virus claimed nearly the entire global population, the world changed. The United States splintered into fifty walled cities where the surviving citizens clustered to start over. The Company, which ended the plague by bringing a life-saving vaccine back from the future, controls everything. They ration the scant food and supplies through a lottery system, mandate daily doses of virus suppressant, and even monitor future timelines to stop crimes before they can be committed.   Brilliant but autistic, sixteen-year-old Clover Donovan has always dreamed of studying at the Waverly-Stead Academy. Her brother and caretaker, West, has done everything in his power to make her dream a reality. But Clover’s refusal to part with her beloved service dog denies her entry into the school. Instead, she is drafted into the Time Mariners, a team of Company operatives who travel through time to gather news about the future.   When one of Clover’s missions reveals that West’s life is in danger, the Donovans are shattered. To change West’s fate, they’ll have to take on the mysterious Company. But as its secrets are revealed, they realize that the Company’s rule may not be as benevolent as it seems. In saving her brother, Clover will face a more powerful force than she ever imagined… and will team up with a band of fellow misfits and outsiders to incite a revolution that will change their destinies forever.
My Review: Even with how long it took me to read this... the story was actually really good. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Interesting idea and concept and 'real' characters. Clover is so real with her problems and how they used them. This story is about an outbreak that kills off a lot of people but with a bit of time travel in it too. Awesome story!

The Trap

Title: The Trap
Author: Andrew Fukuda
Rating: 4/5

Description: The final installment in the terrifying dystopian vampire series.
My Review: The ending left me like daybreakers (movie) did. Empty. I was enjoying it till the end and then I was like WTF? I was loving the characters and then things left me feeling like a void... or numb- no emotion at all. :( I would have given it a 5 but that ending!

Bastion

Title: Bastion
Author: Mercedes Lackey
Rating: 5/5

Description: Mags returns to the Collegium, but there are mixed feelings--his included--about him actually remaining there. No one doubts that he is and should be a Herald, but he is afraid that his mere presence is going to incite more danger right in the heart of Valdemar. The heads of the Collegia are afraid that coming back to his known haunt is going to give him less protection than if he went into hiding. Everyone decides that going elsewhere is the solution for now. So since he is going elsewhere--why not return to the place he was found in the first place and look for clues? And those who are closest to him, and might provide secondary targets, are going along. With Herald Jadrek, Herald Kylan (the Weaponsmaster's chosen successor), and his friends Bear, Lena, and Amily, they head for the Bastion, the hidden spot in the hills that had once been the headquarters of a powerful band of raiders that had held him and his parents prisoner. But what they find is not what anyone expected.

My Review: This was by far the best book of this series, a lot of questions were answered about Mags past and parents. And also he got more to chew about in the end. I can't wait to see what happens with Mags and his friends next if there is another book... Forever a Mags Fan!

There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Unfed

Title: Unfed
Author: Kirsty McKay
Rating:  3/5
REVIEWED FOR NETGALLEY

Description:
The good news: Bobby survived her Undead school trip... Bad news: her best mate, Smitty, is missing. Bobby knows she's got to find him even if it means risking it all and going out into the starving-zombie-infested wastelands again. Even if it means taking fellow survivors including a couple of old frenemies along for the ride. And even if the zombies are not the only ones who are chasing them this time.

My Review:
Alright so this book had twists don't get me wrong and Bobby was brave but the story bugged me because it was the same old same old. Just like the first one basically but the zoms were smarter and livestock was zoms too. Also this book left off in the cliffhanger basically so now I will have to read the next book thanks lol.

Undead

Title: Undead
Author: Kirsty McKay
Rating:  4/5

Description:
Out of sight, out of their minds: It's a school-trip splatter fest and completely not cool when the other kids in her class go all braindead on new girl Bobby. The day of the ski trip, when the bus comes to a stop at a roadside restaurant, everyone gets off and heads in for lunch. Everyone, that is, except Bobby, the new girl, who stays behind with rebel-without-a-clue Smitty. Then hours pass. Snow piles up. Sun goes down. Bobby and Smitty start to flirt. Start to stress. Till finally they see the other kids stumbling back. But they've changed. And not in a good way. Straight up, they're zombies. So the wheels on the bus better go round and round freakin' fast, because that's the only thing keeping Bobby and Smitty from becoming their classmates' next meal. It's kill or be killed in these hunger games, heads are gonna roll, and homework is most definitely gonna be late.

My Review:
I really liked the characters and story of this book, it wasn't too gross even tho its a zombie book and the humor was brilliant in areas. I enjoyed that it wasn't only about the zombies but also about the teens lives and what they were thinking. :) Good job. Now on to the second book!

Currently Reading :) 9.17.13

So as of right now I'm nose deep into two books... one for zombie books challenge and the other I believe is steampunk I believe;

Rating: 5/5

Description:
Here we go again. . .
Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can't get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities--until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I'm still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.
As Nike's Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I'm still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I've got to get my hands on the antidote fast--otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins--and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there . . .

My Review:
I was totally happy when I saw this sitting at the library for me. And still happy after reading it- that I can't wait to read the next one when its made. The story never bores me- Midnight frost was so much better than Spartan Frost. And so many things answered about Gwen's family. Loved it.

But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

My Review:
I enjoyed this story, even with the main character being so young and in the college world it didn't dapper the story. I liked how she was book smart but not really street smart. So she got in trouble- so her character was more believable to me. I will be reading the next book probody next month. :)

Rating: 5/5 fav.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death.
