The Prompts

1.     Clock tower: Welcome to Mystic Falls! One of the first things you see is the iconic clock tower. As an opening prompt, read a book with a supernatural element.

Anna Dressed in Blood by: Kendare Blake

2.     Mystic Grill: While we’re here, let’s head to the Mystic Grill. It’s been the site for many parties, dates, and lonely drinking sessions. Read a book featuring a friendship.

Fangirl, Volume 2 by: Sam Maggs

3.     Mystic Falls High School: Is that the school bell I hear? Head to the high school, and while you’re there, read a book with a school setting.

Boys over Flowers, Volume 1 by: Yoko Kamio

4.     Salvatore Boarding House: Whoops, you bump into Stefan in the hall, who invites you to a party tonight at the Boarding House. This house is a living antique, passed down through the generations. Read a book with a historical element.

On the Way to the Wedding by: Julia Quinn

5.     Lockwood Mansion: Miss Mystic Falls is the following day, hosted as always at the Lockwood Mansion. The winner will always be popular, and of course from a founding family. Read a popular book.

Saga, Book 1 by: Brian K. Vaughan

6.     Wickery Bridge: It’s time to go home, and we’re driving on the route of Wickery Bridge. There have been lots of thrilling, often life-or-death situations here, so – read a thriller.

Verity by: Colleen Hoover

7.     Mystic Falls Cemetery: We definitely need to visit the Mystic Falls Cemetery but wait, is that fog? And a crow? How creepy. Read a book with a dark cover.

Acid Town by: Kyugo

8. Gilbert House: Let’s run back to Elena’s house – the cemetery was creepy. Ah the front porch!… The memories made here! For this location, read a romance.

Inuyasha, Volume 1 & 2 by: Rumiko Takahashi

9. Forbes House: Elena! Gather your things! It’s time for a sleepover at Caroline’s! She’s planning the next school dance and needs some help (though she’d never admit it!) Read a book with a party in it.

Alice in Wonderland by: Lewis Carroll

10. Mystic Falls: Thank you for visiting the small town of Mystic Falls, where we seem to have a high proportion of animal attacks… why don’t you read a vampire book.

Crave by: Tracy Wolff

Down the TBR Hole #13

  Down the TBR Hole #13

Romance!

9th of August 2023

How it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
Idea came from Momsbookcollection

1. Ten Rules for Faking it by: Sophie Sullivan (delete)
What happens when your love life becomes the talk of the town?

As birthdays go, this year’s for radio producer Everly Dean hit rock-bottom.

Worse than the “tonsillectomy birthday.” Worse than the birthday her parents decided to split (the first time). But catching your boyfriend cheating on you with his assistant?

Even clichés sting.

But this is Everly’s year! She won’t let her anxiety hold her back. She’ll pitch her podcast idea to her boss.

There’s just one problem.

Her boss, Chris, is very cute. (Of course). Also, he's extremely distant (which means he hates her, right? Or is that the anxiety talking)?

And, Stacey the DJ didn’t mute the mic during Everly’s rant about Simon the Snake (syn: Cheating Ex).

That’s three problems.

Suddenly, people are lining up to date her, Bachelorette-style, fans are voting (Reminder: never leave house again), and her interest in Chris might be a two-way street. It’s a lot for a woman who could gold medal in people-avoidance. She’s going to have to fake it ‘till she makes it to get through all of this.

Perhaps she’ll make a list: The Ten Rules for Faking It.

Because sometimes making the rules can find you happiness when you least expect it.

2. When in Rome by: Sarah Adams (Keep)
Opposites certainly attract for the stranded pop star and small-town baker in this charming slice of romance from the author of the TikTok sensation The Cheat Sheet.

Amelia Rose, known as Rae Rose to her adoring fans, is burned-out from years of maintaining her "princess of pop" image. Inspired by her favorite Audrey Hepburn film, Roman Holiday, she drives off in the middle of the night for a break in Rome . . . Rome, Kentucky, that is.

When Noah Walker finds Amelia on his front lawn in her broken-down car, he makes it clear he doesn't have the time or patience for celebrity problems. He's too busy running the pie shop his grandmother left him and reminding his nosy but lovable neighbors to mind their own damn business. Despite his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room--but only until her car is fixed--then she's on her own.

Then Noah starts to see a different side of Rae Rose--she's Amelia: kindhearted and goofy, yet lonely from years in the public eye. He can't help but get close to her. Soon she'll have to return to her glamorous life on tour, but until then, Noah will show Amelia all the charming small-town experiences she's been missing, and she'll help him open his heart to more.

Amelia can't resist falling for the cozy town and her grumpy tour guide, but even Audrey had to leave Rome eventually.

3. The Bromance Book Club by: Lyssa Kay Adams (Keep)
The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club.

Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.

Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.

Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.

4. Built to Last by: Erin Hahn (delete)
Shelby Springfield has spent the last ten years trying to overcome her past, sanding it away like she does the rough spots on the vintage furniture finds she makes over. But as a former child star, it’s hard to forget a mediocre pop career, a meltdown widely documented by the paparazzi, and a huge public break with her former co-star Lyle Jessup. It’s also hard to forget her other co-star and childhood sweetheart, Cameron Riggs -- the one who got away.

Anytime Shelby has called, Cameron has come running… And then he runs right off again to chase stories around the world by making documentaries, too scared to admit what he really wants. But when Lyle stirs the pot, getting the two back in the spotlight with a home renovation show, Cameron can't help but come on board.

There's something in it for everyone -- almost. Cameron wants to come home and set down some roots. Shelby wants to prove to the world she's not the messy party girl anymore. And Lyle wants to twist the screws on his two childhood friends who had more chemistry than he could dream of with anyone. Sparks and sawdust fly as Shelby and Cameron film the pilot for "Homemade" and battle Lyle’s shenanigans at every turn.

Erin Hahn’s sparkling rom com debut, Built to Last, is a second chance romance sure to have readers falling in love fast.

Two childhood sweethearts find a second chance at love in this adult romance debut from a critically acclaimed young adult author.

5. Accidently Amy by: Lynn Painter (delete)
IT STARTED WITH A CUP…

Isabella Shay is usually a very honest person.

But when she’s running late for her first day at a dream job and the barista yells for “Amy” 3x with no answer, she does the unthinkable.

Izzy takes that PSL.

It’s the exact drink she ordered and paid for, only waaaay further ahead in the line, so she mutters “I’m Amy” and grabs the cup.

But when she turns around and runs directly into the most attractive man she’s ever seen, spilling the drink all over his GQ shirt and tie, she ends up having the ultimate meet-cute. Sparks fly and things feel beyond promising until he says the words, “See you tomorrow, Amy.”

Uh, oh – she’ll definitely have to straighten him out the following day.

Only when she gets to her new office and meets the VP of her department, it is none other than Blake Phillips - the hottie from Starbucks. And the man might’ve been charming to “Amy,” but he is an arrogant grump to Izzy, an arrogant grump who dos not find her explanation funny at all.

MEET CUTE + GRUMPY/SUNSHINE + FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS = ACCIDENTALLY AMY
