Title: Tales of the Peculiar
Author: Ransom Riggs
Rating: 4/5
Description:
Before Miss Peregrine gave them a home, the story of peculiars was written in the Tales.
Wealthy cannibals who dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. A fork-tongued princess. The origins of the first ymbryne. These are but a few of the truly brilliant stories in Tales of the Peculiar—known to hide information about the peculiar world—first introduced by Ransom Riggs in his Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series.
My Reviews:
The Splendid Cannibals:
The Fork-Tongued Princess: Princess has a secret- that only her maid knows until the prince she was suppose to marry calls her a monster. Then her father finds out and puts her in prison and then she escapes with her maid to find a prince as unique as her. She finds one but he is in prison too. He is a snail boy and when he sees her still calls her a monster. She ends up on enemy's lands and finds a prince there that doesn't marry her but gives her power in the army (i believe). They end up throwing her father in prison at the end. She wants her father to still love her but he calls her a traitor and a monster. She helps break him out and outcasts him into the world.
The First Ymbryne:
The Woman Who Befriended Ghosts: Didn't Read. I have a past with stuff like this so I kind of steer clear of this!
Cocobolo: Didn't Read, Got bored of this one.
The Pigeons of Saint Paul's: Pigeons don't like humans but like our food. So they stay away but not to far away. Then a guy comes to them talking about a religious building that he wants to build since the pigeons love to start the building on fire. A building where the top would be for the pigeons and the bottom would be for the humans- they say yes. This story was oh k.
The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares: The Girl wanted to be a doctor like her pa, but in this time girls were suppose to like knitting and home stuff. So she studied behind their backs til her little brother complained about nightmares... so trying to help her brother she found a thread in his ear and she yanked it out. Nightmares were gone... so people heard and one night she pulled a thread out of a guy who tricked her. He is a crazy murder... when she finds out she tries to stop him... ends up saving a bunch of kids before hurting herself and ending up with nightmares herself which she doesn't take out. I guess she sees this as a punishment for what she did? Yup.
The Locust: This story is about the 'love' of a son and father in which the son's birth kills the mother and the father sort of blames the son for it and grows to not love his son til he finds out he was wrong.
The Boy Who Could Hold Back The Sea: Guy can control the current to bring in fish to eat and people use him to their games and force him. He runs until he finds a girl who can control the wind!
The Tale of Cuthbert: Cuthbert was a kind giant who loved the animals and made friends with them and protected them until a witch came and put a spell on the poor guy because of one guy the giant killed when he was protecting the animals. This spell turned him into stone but he didn't want to be alone so he called out to his friends and they ended up staying with him... sleeping in his mouth and around his body to keep him company til his heart stopped beating. Friendship is the strongest thing for loneliness. What a story!
