The Color of Fear

Title: Once Upon a Zombie, Book One
Author: by Billy Phillips and Jenny Nissenson
Rating:
Netgalley Review
archive: oct 9, 2015

Description:
When Caitlin Fletcher’s mom disappeared (or left?) four years ago, Caitlin began suffering from breathless bouts of anxiety. Her new move to London, with her Dad and her brainiac sister, threatens to lead to more situations that will trigger panic. Now, she’s having anxiety over the possibility of having anxiety!
Caitlin’s life takes a turn for the bizarre when she’s tricked into climbing down a “rabbit hole” landing in a wondrous fairy tale universe —except it’s crawling with savage starving blood-eyed zombies. All the timeless fairy tale characters who once lived forever are now the living dead— think Snow White, Cinderella,
Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty. Even worse they’re famished. Definitely not the ideal situation for a vulnerable young girl prone to panic attacks.

My Review: Wow, I loved it. The idea was brilliant and even though I pretty much knew the end idea of it I just kept reading it. I couldn't put this novel down. Natalie was my favorite character this quirky and smart-ass younger sister was interesting. The Zombies were cool. Caitlin was so real, like who doesn't have at least one of her fears. The only thing that got me is that I'm a huge Alice fan and I expected her in more then just the end- since she is on this cover. But hey I bet she will be in book 2 now... LUVED it!

Diamond City Magic #1

Title: Trace of Magic
Author: Diana Pharaoh Francis
Rating: 5/5
Reviewed thru Netgalley for Publisher!

Thankz for much to Niki Flowers from Dell Bridge Books for sending me a free copy of this book so I can review both book #1 and 2!

Description: Even the most powerful tracers can't track you if the magical trace you leave behind is too old. But I can track almost anything, even dead trace. That makes me a unicorn, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Lock Ness Monster all rolled into one. In a word, I am unique. A very special snowflake. And if anyone ever finds out, I'll be dead or a slave to one of the Tyet criminal factions. Riley Hollis has quietly traced kidnapped children and quietly tipped the cops to their whereabouts one too many times. Now she's on the radar of Detective Clay Price, a cop in the pocket of a powerful magic Tyet faction. When he blackmails her into doing a dangerous trace for him, Riley will have to break every rule that keeps her safe. Or become a Tyet pawn in a deadly, magical war.

My Review: Just finished this wonderful book. With a perfect mix of adventure, action, romance, and magic. Which kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is beautifully written and the characters are real-like. Stubborn and like-able. I love the tension and uncertain love between Riley and Price. The constant need to protect each other was cute. Now we just need some questions answered that were left alone for us. But soon enough I'll be reading book 2 so that's all good! I enjoyed this book way too much and I give it a 5/5 stars!

My Review:
I loved the characters and the story, but no questions were answered. In fact we got more questions and I found out they aren't answered in the trilogy of books and she won't continue this series so I stopped reading it!

The 100/ Day 21

Title: The 100/ Day 21
Author: Kass Morgan
Rating: 1/5
Netgalley Reviews, both archived

Description for THE 100:
No one has set foot on Earth in centuries -- until now. Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents -- considered expendable by society -- are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission. CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves -- but will she ever forgive him? Reckless BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the other half of the only pair of siblings in the universe. And GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth. Confronted with a savage land and haunted by secrets from their pasts, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind's last hope.

Description for Day 21:
New in paperback-the sequel to New York Times bestseller The 100 . Now a TV show on The CW! It's been 21 days since the hundred landed on Earth. They're the only humans to set foot on the planet in centuries. Or so they thought. Facing an unknown enemy, Wells attempts to keep the group safe after a tragic attack. Clarke strikes out in search of other colonists, while Bellamy is determined to rescue his sister, no matter the cost. And back on the ship, Glass faces an unthinkable choice between the love of her life and life itself. In this pulse-pounding sequel, secrets are revealed, beliefs are challenged, and relationships are tested. The hundred will struggle to survive the only way they can...together. "Dark and riveting...A mash-up of The Lord of the Flies , Across the Universe , and The Hunger Games ."- Booklist on The 100

My Reviews: I couldn't finish the first book, it was way too different then the show and didn't like it at all!

The Chief

Title: The Chief
Author: Monica McCarty
Rating: 5/5 love love it!

Description:
An elite fighting force unlike the world has ever seen . . . Scouring the darkest corners of the Highlands and Western Isles, Robert the Bruce handpicks ten warriors to help him in his quest to free Scotland from English rule. They are the best of the best, chosen for their superior skills in each discipline of warfare. And to lead his secret Highland Guard, Bruce chooses the greatest warrior of all.

The ultimate Highland warlord and a swordsman without equal, Tor MacLeod has no intention of being drawn into Scotland’s war against the English. Dedicated to his clan, the fiercely independent chief answers to no one—especially not to his alluring new bride, bartered to him in a bid to secure his command of the deadliest fighting force the world has ever seen. The treacherous chit who made her way to Tor’s bed may have won his hand, but she will never claim his heart. Although her husband’s reputation is as fierce as his manner, Christina Fraser believes that something softer hides beneath his brutal shell. But the only warmth she feels is in their bed, in glorious moments of white-hot desire that disappear with the dawn. When Christina’s reckless bid to win her husband’s love goes awry and thrusts them into danger on the eve of war, Tor will face his ultimate battle: to save his wife and to open his heart—before it’s too late.

My Review: Alright so this was picked for me and I totally fell head over heels for Tor and Tina's relationship. It might have had rocky areas but they were so cute in pairs and HOT. I had a bit of a problem at the beginning because its been awhile for me to read historical romance but I stuck it out... I love Monica McCarty's writing style, the story, the colorful characters... oh man the hunks! Highlanders... lovely! I will read the rest of this series one day!

My Review:
OMG to this series, the story started in a light jog which took place right after the first book. And it took a quick pace that left me breathless by the end. But I knew who was behind the treason against the other tribe's royals. But so many turns- and who is controlling these peeps- I MUST KNOW NOW. I love the story so far and the characters are so likeable. This series is making me a Hocking fan. I will read her other books! YAY!

Daughter of Deep Silence (full version)

Title: Daughter of Deep Silence
Author: Carrie Ryan
Rating: 3 /5

Description:
A delicious tale of revenge and identity from Carrie Ryan, the bestselling author of The Forest of Hands and Teeth In the wake of the deadly devastation of luxury yacht Persephone , just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace, rescued from the ocean after torturous days adrift with her dying friend Libby, knows that the Persephone wasn’t sunk by a rogue wave as survivors Senator Wells and his son are claiming—it was attacked.   To ensure her safety from the obviously dangerous and very powerful Wells family, Libby’s father helps newly orphaned Frances assume Libby’s identity. Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son.   The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she's playing to win.

My Review: Finished at 5:19am I just wanted it done. The writing and characters were ok but the story wasn't for me at all. Not saying the book is bad but I just didn't enjoy it. Sorry! I guess I enjoyed the sample of the book and thought I would like the full story more.

Cold Burn of Magic

Title: Cold Burn of Magic
Author: Jennifer Estep
Rating:  5/5 Loved it!

Description:
There Be Monsters Here. . . It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick. But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . . (found on Shelfari)

My Review: This book rates as high as the frost series in my opinion. I love Jennifer's writing style and the way she makes kickass girls! And now I have something to look forward to in Nov. Book 2, Dark Heart of Magic will be out! So this story is about an orphan with secrets of her own as she takes care of herself but then gets caught in something that changes her life forever. The twist in this story had me gasping for air at the end and I couldn't read this book any faster than I did. And lets just say what another colorful world she painted for us again. Thanks again for writing these stories for us!
Then I headed over to amazon and it said oct.27 YAY!

A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L'eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side. Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L'eihr relations. Humans don't know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx's people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. The Way clearly needs humans' help but with what? And what will they ask for in return? (found on Shelfari]

My Review: I think everyone should read this book its brilliant and totally different then most books. I love the characters and how the author describes everything. The hate/love relationship that the humans and L'eihrs have and also she answered most questions. Though I wish there was more- but who knows :) I know this is a short review... I'm pretty bad at them but what the heck I just wanted to say I love this series!

Title: My Boyfriend is a Monster- Under his Spell
Author: Marie P. Croall

That is, until foreign exchange student Allein Atwood shows up in her Midwestern town, and her life turns epically weird.
