Daughter of Deep Silence (full version)

Title: Daughter of Deep Silence
Author: Carrie Ryan
Rating: 3 /5

Description:
A delicious tale of revenge and identity from Carrie Ryan, the bestselling author of The Forest of Hands and Teeth In the wake of the deadly devastation of luxury yacht Persephone , just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace, rescued from the ocean after torturous days adrift with her dying friend Libby, knows that the Persephone wasn’t sunk by a rogue wave as survivors Senator Wells and his son are claiming—it was attacked.   To ensure her safety from the obviously dangerous and very powerful Wells family, Libby’s father helps newly orphaned Frances assume Libby’s identity. Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son.   The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she's playing to win.

My Review: Finished at 5:19am I just wanted it done. The writing and characters were ok but the story wasn't for me at all. Not saying the book is bad but I just didn't enjoy it. Sorry! I guess I enjoyed the sample of the book and thought I would like the full story more.

Cold Burn of Magic

Title: Cold Burn of Magic
Author: Jennifer Estep
Rating:  5/5 Loved it!

Description:
There Be Monsters Here. . . It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick. But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . . (found on Shelfari)

My Review: This book rates as high as the frost series in my opinion. I love Jennifer's writing style and the way she makes kickass girls! And now I have something to look forward to in Nov. Book 2, Dark Heart of Magic will be out! So this story is about an orphan with secrets of her own as she takes care of herself but then gets caught in something that changes her life forever. The twist in this story had me gasping for air at the end and I couldn't read this book any faster than I did. And lets just say what another colorful world she painted for us again. Thanks again for writing these stories for us!
Then I headed over to amazon and it said oct.27 YAY!

Rating:  5/5 I LOVED IT!

Description:

A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L'eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side. Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L'eihr relations. Humans don't know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx's people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists' multiple attempts on Aelyx's life. The Way clearly needs humans' help but with what? And what will they ask for in return? (found on Shelfari]

My Review: I think everyone should read this book its brilliant and totally different then most books. I love the characters and how the author describes everything. The hate/love relationship that the humans and L'eihrs have and also she answered most questions. Though I wish there was more- but who knows :) I know this is a short review... I'm pretty bad at them but what the heck I just wanted to say I love this series!

Gilded Ashes

Title: Gilded Ashes
Author: Rosamund Hodge
Rating:  5/5

Description:
A romantic and fantastical reimagining of the classic Cinderella tale, Gilded Ashes is a novella by Rosamund Hodge set in the same world as the author's debut novel, Sundered.
Orphan Maia doesn't see the point of love when it only brings pain: Her dying mother made a bargain with the evil, all-powerful ruler of their world that anyone who hurt her beloved daughter would be punished; her new stepmother went mad with grief when Maia's father died; and her stepsisters are desperate for their mother's approval, yet she always spurns them. And though her family has turned her into a despised servant, Maia must always pretend to be happy, or else they'll all be struck dead by the curse.

Anax, heir to the Duke of Sardis, doesn't believe in love either—not since he discovered that his childhood sweetheart was only using him for his noble title. What's the point of pretending to fall in love with a girl just so she'll pretend to fall in love with him back? But when his father invites all the suitable girls in the kingdom to a masked ball, Anax must finally give in and select a wife.
As fate would have it, the preparations for the masquerade bring him Maia, who was asked by her eldest stepsister to deliver letters to Anax. Despite a prickly first encounter, he is charmed and intrigued by this mysterious girl who doesn't believe in love. Anax can't help wishing to see her again—and when he does, he can't help falling in love with her. Against her will, Maia starts to fall in love with him too. But how can she be with him when every moment his life is in danger from her mother's deadly bargain?

My Review:
Just like the first book of the Cruel Beauty Series, titled the same. I loved this story, the characters and story is just beautiful and hooks you into it. This one is a retelling of Cinderella. It had me hooked in the first chapter- feeling bad for Maia and her step-sisters. And of course the Lord that's in the first book appears here too- I guess this is a prequel then :) Well I'll be reading the next book soon!

Cruel Beauty

Title: Cruel Beauty
By: Rosamund Hodge
Rating: 5/5

Description: Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love

My review: I loved this retelling of beauty and the beast. Nyx is a spitfire of a character who has so many faults that she could be a real person in our world. I love that, and the story is mixed with myths... so much love for this book that I'll be reading the novella next and then book 2 :)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author:  Laini Taylor
Rating: 2/5

Description:
Once upon a time, an angel and devil fell in love. It did not end well.
Around the world black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbook with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on "errands;" she speaks many languages, not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That's one question that haunts her that she is about to find out.
When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review:
First I thought she was his daughter and then bam she wasn't... I don't know what to think about this book. I read it for the book club but I don't think I liked it... well the end I didn't like!

Memory Zero

Title: Memory Zero
Author: Keri Arthur
Rating: 5/5 love
Netgalley Review

Description: For Sam Ryan, life began at the age of fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her past. For the ten years that Sam's been with the State Police, she's searched for clues to her identity. But it's as if all mention of her family has been deliberately wiped off the system. Everything changes the night she agrees to meet her missing partner, Jack, and barely survives his attempt to kill her. Charged with his murder, Sam finds herself accepting help from Gabriel Stern-a shapeshifter with secrets of his own. As Sam delves into her partner's death, it soon becomes clear that the key to surviving the present lies in unravelling the threads of her past-and discovering not just who she is, but what she is . . .

My Review: Sam thinks she is a normal girl but it is starting to not look like it now. Although the book doesn't get into why she is different really and I wouldn't tell you here anyways- at least there are another 2 books in this trilogy. I'll have to read these too! How fun. So far I love the story and the characters. even the world of spooks, there are vampires, changers, shapechangers, and a few other things that go bump in the night. Oh and plenty of action and I'm not talking action in the bedroom- violence!

I Hate Myselfie

Title: I Hate Myselfie
Author: Shane Dawson
Rating:  5/5, LOVE IT
Reviewing for Netgalley (Archiving on March 30th)

Description: The book that more than 12 million YouTube subscribers have been waiting for! Shane Dawson’s memoir features twenty original essays—uncensored yet surprisingly sweet. Shane Dawson has always been an open book. From his first YouTube vlog back in 2008, to his feature film debut "Not Cool," to a cover story in Variety magazine, Shane has documented his life pre-tty thoroughly. We’ve seen awkward and adorable Q&As with his mom, weight loss center drama, love life details, and the all-important haircut reveal. We’ve seen his hilarious spoofs of Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, and Sarah Palin. His music videos are awesome. But in I Hate Myselfie!, fans will finally get a chance to see the real Shane through personal stories that are at once humorous and heartwarming, self-deprecating and totally inspiring. Highlighting key moments of his childhood and adolescence, through his phenomenal success on YouTube, and continuing on to his more recent experiences as an actor and director, Shane’s memoir will feature the silliness and satire his fans already enjoy, but it will be even more in depth, more real, and more portable (it’s a book). (from Shelfari)

My Review: Truly a rollercoaster, from laughing out loud to crying. I really enjoyed reading this book and his thoughts since I've been a fan of Shane Dawson since I stumbled onto his YouTube channel years ago. And reading this book I find his crude humor refreshing because he doesn't fear what people really think about him. Shane Dawson is Shane Dawson and he will be himself. And I totally love him for who he is! Keep up the good job and if you write more book I will read them... for sure!
